Pacifier Clips Now Available for Purchase!

Written by Deborah on .

Hi everyone,

I am now offering pacifier clips for reborn dolls. I make these clips myself and each baby I make comes with one of these clips. I am now selling them separately as well. They are nice to  keep track of the pacifier when you don't want to display your baby with the pacifier in the mouth.

See pacifier clips here:

PLEASE NOTE: These clips are intended for dolls only. The snaps on the clips could pose a choking hazard should a real baby bite them off!

Thank you,

Deborah

Painting and Some Information to Keep in Mind

Written by Deborah on .

Hi folks,

I am currently painting Michelle Fagan's "Gabrielle" sculpt. This has been a sculpt that I have done a few times and continues to be a favorite and requested by many. She is beautiful open eye girl. I hope to have her done over the next week.

I wanted to mention that I received an email from someone a few days ago. The individual was a bit frustrated that the time in between the babies I have available seems to be long. I never quite know how to respond to an email like this because I pretty much paint and work on dolls from morning till night. I do, however, have other responsibilities as I have a family and a home that I need to attend to. I am also having to make dolls to put away for a show I have in June so that has taken up 50% of my time. I was then asked why others are able to do them quicker.

This is what I have to say...If someone tells you they can make one of these dolls in a matter of 2 days, then I would definitley question what it is you are buying and the quality as well. I have been doing this 13 years and although all artists have their own methods, I can tell you it is not possible to do a quality baby in 2 days. It usually takes me 7 to 10 days. Unfortunately, the market is flooded with those that like to slap a doll together to make a buck without any consideration for the quality. Also, if someone is selling you a baby for what seems to be a "cheap" price, then expect a "cheap" quality doll. Who in their right mind is going to sell a baby for half of what they put into it. Most of the babies I make (NOT ALL), cost me between $200-$300 to make. Then there is the 80 hours or more put into the painting, the heat setting of each layer, the hair whether painted or rooted (takes me 3 days at the least), the weighting, the assembling, the eye setting, the lash application whether applied or rooted. It takes TIME and a lot of it. Just keep that in mind when someone tells you they can make a doll for you for $80.

Ok, I am back to painting.  A newsletter will go out once this baby is completed.

Gabriel by Michelle Fagan

Written by Deborah on .

Hello,

Just recently, I have had a few people ask me about my Christy baby from 2015. Since I have had more than one request for me to do another, I have decided to go ahead and make another baby using this sculpt which is the Gabriel sculpt by Michelle Fagan. This baby will be open eyed and is adorable. Please keep in mind that the new baby will not look just like Christy as all my babies are one of kind and can never be duplicated. My last baby using this sculpt was baby Christy as seen here:

I hope to have her done within the next two weeks!

Attention NC Residents ~ Sales Tax Changes

Written by Deborah on .

Hello,

As a small business owner in North Carolina, I am required to pay sales tax on all items sold within North Carolina. Up to this point, I have not been adding this to online sales for NC residents because buyers from this region were so few and far between (At NC shows, I figure it into the price).

Over the last 6 months, I have acquired new repeat buyers in NC which has resulted in me having to pay sales tax out of pocked and it has become very expensive. Effective March 1, 2016, any purchase made at Deborah's Darlings within North Carolina will have sales tax added to the purchase. The current rate for Wake County is 6.75. Of course, this will change as the sales tax rate changes. If you have any questions, please email me at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

Thank you,

Deborah

Change of Plan

Written by Deborah on .

Hello,

Anyone that knows me knows I am very picky when it comes to my babies. If I dont like it, I redo it. Well unfortunately that is the worst when it come to mohair. I have been rooting the last few days and was questioning the hair the whole time. I should have stopped while I was ahead because as I was towards the end, I realized it was not to my liking. The mohair just was not to my liking at all. So what does that mean? I ripped it all out! I couldn't sell a baby with hair like that. What else does that mean? Well this baby isn't going to be blonde! Looks like I will be going through my hair this morning to see what I have and deciding what color to use. Looks like another few days of rooting. Let's hope I can have this little done by this weekend!
